Staff Senate opted not to resubmit its sick leave pool plan to the President's Council during its monthly meeting on Wednesday.

The plan calls for faculty and staff to share sick days if needed when a member's vacation and sick days are used up. When the plan was brought before Faculty Senate earlier this month, the Faculty Senate passed and amended it to include "domestic partners" under Family Leave and Medical Act guidelines, allowing faculty and staff to take off work without pay to care for a non-family member, which would benefit same-sex partners.

Finally, it seems, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is paying attention to Missouri Southern.

For months Nixon sat by idly as seats on the University's Board of Governors expired or became vacant. Other vacancies and expired seats around the state were filled promptly, while we waited for action.

The phrase, "In God We Trust" needs to be removed from American currency.

The phrase was passed by an act of Congress in 1955 and first printed in 1957. The reasons were explained in simple terms of good and evil: American free market was good and an act of God while the Communist market was godless.

It's the most disgraceful time of year.

The stretch of weeks from Super Bowl Sunday until Opening Day of baseball season is the most miserable of such in all the 52 weeks of the year. And we're smack in the middle of it.

Its been long enough since the Super Bowl that people are tired of talking about it, but it hasn't been long enough for anyone, save me apparently, to miss the NFL.

Four losses in two days doesn't help a team's standing.

The Lions hosted the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks for doubleheaders on back-to-back days last weekend and were outscored by a total of 45-19.
