Wednesday night, Alpha Sigma Alpha met to spread holiday festivities while hosting its first recruitment night since initiating 14 new members last month during formal recruitment.
The recruitment night began at 6:30 p.m. with games and snacks. Following the games, the ladies started decorating Christmas ornaments and cards. Glitter, glue and Sharpies covered the tables as they began their creations.
"By gaining new members and building our numbers, hopefully we just be known better on campus and in the community and can become a stronger organization and do more events on campus," said Lacey Mcdannald, junior psychology major and president of ASA.
The event was the first event for the new members initiated through formal fall recruitment on Nov. 20.
"I wanted to get to know other people my age, other ladies, who are looking at bettering the community through community service and building relationships with business people and peers," said Katie Bromley, junior accounting major, new member and vice president of public relations and recruitment.
Although formal recruitment is over, the group continues to build membership throughout the year.
"We can do what is called continually bidding. It's so that we can do year round recruitment, so we can build our numbers past formal recruitment and maintain higher membership," said Mcdannald.
Even if new members are not gained from Wednesday's event, the ladies were still pleased.
"We're having fun," said Bromley. "We're eating good food. We're laughing and smiling, so I definitely I definitely consider it a success."
The ladies were seeking to gain members, but they were also able to enjoy each other's company.
"We have a lot a lot of fun," said Bromley. "We all love each other. We have a great strong sisterhood, and we would love for more people to share that sisterhood."
