The Klassix Society will be hosting the 18th annual Benefit Food & Wine Tasting a week from tonight at the Joplin Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the 25 anniversary of 88.7 KXMS radio station.

This radio station has some new equipment, but is still broadcasting using many of the same pieces of equipment that they had on the first day.

88.7KXMS title changed in 2002 to KXMS Fine Arts Radio International.

"In July 2002 we trade marked the name Fine Arts Radio International" said Jeffery Skibbe, radio station manager. "We also like having international as part of our name since it's a big part of our school's mantra."

The station has an expansive selection of albums.

"We have over 42,000 titles and approximately 6,000 albums in our library." Skibbe said.

88.7 FM offers the best classical music selection in the area. Preston Choate, junior computer science major, said he really enjoys the station.

"KXMS, provided by Missouri Southern is a great asset for students and provides excellent classical music," Choate said.

Brain Games, and upcoming program, will allow local competing scholar bowl teams to compete against one another.

"We're going to do some test programs and then launch the program later this Spring." he said.

The wine tasting will be held from 5 p.m.  until 7:30 p.m., featuring food from local restaurants.
