Immediately following spring semester and before summer school is a two-week period known as Intersession, where students can take courses that may not be available any other time of year.
Not all colleges offer Intersession classes so we are fortunate at MSSU.  For example, my undergraduate school did not have them; my graduate school did, and fellow students recommended taking Intersession classes for their reputation as easy credit hours and GPA boosters.
Intersession at MSSU consists of one and two credit classes taken Monday through Friday the last week of May and the first week of June.  Students may take up to three credit hours per Intersession.  Credit hours apply at the very least to the total number of hours needed to graduate.
Registration for Intersession starts mid-to-late April, the same time as registration for Summer School.  If students need additional information about a course, they can contact the department offering it.  Intersession classes have their own schedule available online.
Students may also use summer financial aid to pay for Intersession classes, if students visit the Student Accounts Manager (Nancy Rainey) in the business office and let her know.
This Intersession, I am again teaching ENG 298 Movie Narrative (CRN 0501).  A former student of mine, Darci Price, said of the class and Intersession, “I was shown movies I had never heard of and grew to love some of them.  Intersession was a great way to get easy credit in a short few weeks.”
Her classmate, Matthew Porte, said, “I really liked our discussion of each film and how it could potentially relate to our lives.”
Their classmate Jason Bogue said of Intersession, “Just two weeks and your hammer out of class, and you still have a summer free for yourself plus additional hours under your belt.”
It cannot be stressed enough that students should add to their college experience by taking Intersession classes.  If a MSSU student is going to be in town the end of May and the beginning of June, there is little reason not to take an Intersession course.
