Dreams Come True

The Dreams Come True Dance Club held their One City, One Dance Showcase on Friday, February 3. During the performance, they danced to mixes of Missy Elliot, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and Beyoncé.

“We had a great turn out. We had Ovations Dance Studio and Carthage High School dance team as guest performers,” says Jada James, senior public relations student.

The group, which started in August 2016, is made up of around 14 people. They meet twice a week. Leader, Chloe Hargrove, is a senior majoring in accounting. She will graduate in December with her Bachelor’s and in May 2018 with her Master’s. She creates the musical mixes and choreographs the dances with some help from James.

The group first performed together at Roller City during Finals Madness in December.

“We had a Japanese student who was going back home and we wanted to give her a chance to perform with us,” says James.

The group originally wanted to perform during halftime at football and basketball games on campus, but were prevented from doing so.

“Early on it was hard to get noticed because we couldn’t perform anywhere. Ultimately that’s why we decided to do our own showcase,” says James.

Hargrove says, “We planned everything from scratch. I feel like, for our first event, the turnout was great and it was very well organized.”

“Anyone can join Dreams Come True Dance Club even if you’ve never had dance experience. We don’t hold auditions or anything,” says James. “Even though it’s fun, we do take it serious. Anyone can join at any time.”

Some members of the Dreams Come True Dance Club will be performing at the Black Student Union Talent Show today at 6 p.m. in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium.
