Campus Activities Board requests ideas for upcoming events

The Campus Activities Board met for 15 minutes, and the main issue was the hanging of posters.

The main focus Monday was the upcoming God debate, scheduled for April 21. The board is expecting a big turnout for the event. Julie Blackford, director of student activities, urged the members who attend church to pass the word around about the debate.

To also advertise the event, after adjourning the meeting the members of CAB went to put posters up on campus.

Posters were also to be put up at Ozark Christian College and Dioko Coffeehouse.

The discussion then turned to Finals Madness. At this point, nothing has been finalized for the event. Blackford said she was looking to have a cash cube and lazer tag as a couple of the activities.

She was also considering an army obstacle course. Blackford urged CAB members to come up with ideas for the event.

“We’re going to have to start signing contractors and stuff,” she said.

Human foosball and a tug of war were suggested for the evening. The event will be held May 7.

Also discussed was the upcoming campus picnic. CAB is also looking for ideas of activities for the event. Possible ideas are airbrush tattoos and the army obstacle course. Blackford said they are having trouble coming up new events to do on campus.

“It’s so hard, because we did so many novelties in the fall,” she said.

Many of those in attendance expressed an interest in bringing back the animals.

Carla Sairbanks, assistant director of CAB, brought up the Resident Hall Association’s upcoming golf tournament. The tournament will be held April 25 at Loma Linda South. It is open to all students, faculty/staff and alumni.

“Just about everyone in Joplin has attended at least one class here,” Blackford said.

They need 10 teams for the event, and the cost is $20 per person playing. Persons interested may call 625-9392 for information.

Blackford also mentioned that as of right now, the Battle of the Bands is on hold until she can talk it over further with Matt Hite, concerts chairperson.

For the summer, CAB hopes to sponsor a picnic for students attending summer school.

“We don’t do any big events like we do in the spring or fall because of attendance,” Blackford said.

“It’ll be like a small scale event,” Sairbanks said.

The board hopes to meet at least once a month during the summer and to begin planning for the fall semester soon.

CAB will meet again at 2 p.m. Monday in the second floor lounge of Billingsly Student Center. All students may attend.
