Golf betters WSU

After previous finishes of fourth and fifth, Southern’s golf team won its first victory of the season on April 11 and 12, posting a 297 on day one of the Central Region Invitational in Leawood, Kan.

They bettered Washburn by two strokes.

The two-day tournament was called part way through day two due to inclement weather.

As the day one leader, Southern earned its first win of the 2004-2005 season.

Senior Danny Sinksen fired a 1-under 71, finishing in a tie for first place with three players.

He lost medalist honors in a scorecard playoff, which contributed to him finishing fourth.

Senior Andrew Koehler shot a 73 en route to his seventh-place finish.

Senior Travis Stockholm finished with 76. Senior Geir Askvik ended with 77.

This is the second year in a row Southern has won at Ironhorse Golf Club in Leawood.

Southern will continue its season with the MIAA invitational on Monday, April 18, and Tuesday, April 19, in Blue Springs, Mo.
