Last week Missouri Southern hosted two conference opponents.
First on Friday visiting No. 14 ranked Central Missouri felled the Lions in three sets despite several standout efforts from the team. Set scores were 19-25, 22-25, and 16-25. Junior Morgan Nash had 12 kills Junior, Shaylon Sharp 10, and Junior Janelle Brehm had 9.
The Lions came back late in the third set to get within two points before Central Missouri got their final kill of the match.
On Saturday No. 11 ranked Northwest Missouri State paid the Lions a visit. The Lions once again fell in three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-20. Brehm led the Lions with ten kills and digs. The Lions once again fought to the end. Clawing back to within two points midway through the final set.
When asked about the two games over the weekend, Head Coach Kalie Mader was focused on the progress the team has made saying, “I thought the team continued to improve last week particularly between our UCM and Northwest games. We continue to be more aggressive and competitive.”
On Tuesday evening the Lions travelled to Edmond, Oklahoma to face University of Central Oklahoma.
The result was another tough defeat with the Lions making a late charge and just barely missing the win. Set scores were 18-25, 23-25, 28-26, 25-19, and 11-15. Nash was on the hunt Tuesday night tallying 26 kills and 19 digs. Freshman Makenzie Fa'amausili-Cacoulidis set a career-high 57 assists while picking up 16 digs. Brehm notched her eighth double-double of the season with 16 kills and 20 digs. Sharp also posted a double-double with 14 kills and 17 digs.
After Tuesday Missouri Southern’s record sits at 8-7 overall and 1-4 in the MIAA already having better performance than they did in 2018 where they only won three games.
