Acidic to perform in Joplin

After touring the country last fall with fellow rockers Smile Empty Soul, the Los Angeles based rock band Acidic has once again returned to Joplin. The band, which previously performed at Guitars Rock and Country Bar in October, will be headlining at Joplin's newest rock venue Rock 3405 on May 30.

"We had them [Acidic] over at Guitars several months ago and people really seemed to like them," said Curt Zimmerman, manager of Rock 3405. "They weren't actually the headliner that day, but I heard that they sort of stole the show. Everybody kept saying, 'Well, the headliner was pretty good, but Acidic, they were even better.'"

Since forming in 2007, Acidic has quickly made a name for itself, having released four albums — including the widely acclaimed album Copper Man — and toured with such bands as Hinder, Candlebox, Filter, Alien Ant Farm and Marcy Playground.

According to an interview held last September with Michael Gossard, lead singer of Acidic, the band has performed frequently in the Joplin area over the years. Gossard attributes this to the band's first show in the area, which was held two months after the May 2011 tornado.

"We played our first show there, and I remember everybody was just kind of … trying to forget, and we were a part of that for some of these people," said Gossard. "We got the chance to be involved in their recovery, and we decided that we were never going to stop coming back."

Since that time, the band has vowed to make Joplin one of their "permanent markets."

In June, Acidic will embark on yet another nationwide tour as part of the Van's Warped Tour lineup.

Tickets for their May 30 show at Rock 3405, which will also feature the bands Red Echo and I-Exist, can be purchased online for $5 at www.stubwire.com — which can be linked to via Rock 3405's official Facebook page. For more information about the show, contact Zimmerman at (417) 317-1234.
