Weather causes cross country postponement

The Missouri Southern Lions cross country meet at Bolivar, Mo. was postponed due to rain and lightning in the area over the weekend. The Southwest Baptist Invitational was scheduled to take place on Oct. 11 but has been rescheduled for the evening of Oct. 14. The MIAA does not normally race on weeknights, but with the Lions on fall break, student athletes will not have to miss class.

“It doesn’t really affect us much, if anything, it gives us an extra break,” said senior Andrew Webster. “We just wanted to see the course early considering we haven’t raced there before, the results of the actual meet didn’t matter much to us. It’ll just be nice to feel out the course that conference will be on.”

The MIAA will hold its conference cross country meet at SBU’s course on Nov. 8.

“The meet getting canceled doesn’t affect our team at all, everything is business as usual,” said senior Colton Wooldridge “Now we get an extra day to get some volume in our training. It’ll be good to get to race on the conference course before the conference meet. We’ll be able to know all the rough footing spots and how to take certain turns in the course.

Senior Eric Schott, who was named MIAA Cross Country Runner of the Week on Oct. 7, his second such honor of the young season, says the team isn’t putting too much stock into Tuesday’s race.

“We are treating this as more of a workout so we are just treating it like every other day at practice,” said Schott.
